Headaches
There are many different types of headaches: tension, cluster, migraine and cervicogenic (headaches originating from the neck).
Headaches can often come from the neck through posture and tension. Migraines can be triggered by factors such as: tiredness, chocolate, cheese and stress. Tightness in the neck may also be a contributing factor.
Tightness in the muscles and joints in the neck, jaw and face can also regularly lead to headaches. Your assessment will provide information that will help you to reduce the severity, the frequency and commonly stop headaches that are caused by discomfort in these areas.
What?s wrong with taking painkillers?
Painkillers can dull your pain, but it may well return, as they do not necessarily deal with the cause. They also may have side effects. Regularly taking painkillers to treat headaches (i.e. on more than 15 days a month, every month) can actually cause more headaches.
How could lifestyle changes help?
Stress may often be the trigger of muscular tension in the neck, which may lead to headaches. While chiropractic often helps, better results are obtained from treatment if you change some stressful habits. There are also certain substances in food and drink, which can also lead to headaches, your chiropractor will discuss this with you.
If we are unable to help your particular type of headache we will explain your various options and make an appropriate referral.
