Chiropractic is able to treat both acute (sudden onset) and chronic (long-term/ongoing) conditions.
Chiropractic also has a role in the diagnostic approach and assessment of conditions from a functional orthopaedic (joints) and neurological (nerves) assessment. The physical assessment and where necessary X-ray examination also plays a role in the diagnosis making chiropractic a musculoskeletal specialisation.
Chiropractors are also trained to identify other medical conditions. Chiropractors have a duty of care to their patients and will therefore refer to a GP or specialist doctor if they feel chiropractic cannot help or if they suspect an underlying medical problem that requires a different form of treatment.
